MAN tractorheads

MAN Truck & Bus, a German manufacturer part of the TRATON group (Volkswagen), produces its tractor units in Munich and Salzgitter, Germany. The brand is particularly popular in Central European markets, where its service network is the densest.

MAN TGX: the long-distance range

The TGX (2020+, new generation) is powered by D15 (9.0L, 330-400 HP), D26 (12.4L, 430-510 HP) and D38 (15.2L, 540-640 HP) engines. The GX cab is MAN's most spacious with 2,121 mm interior height and flat floor. The MAN EfficientCruise system uses GPS and topographic data to adjust speed and gears, reducing fuel consumption by up to 6%.

MAN TipMatic 2

The 12-speed TipMatic 2 automated transmission features the Idle Speed Driving system for extremely low-speed manoeuvring without the clutch. EfficientRoll mode decouples the engine on downhill sections to use momentum. Also available with integrated EVBec retarder (decompression engine brake) delivering up to 400 kW of braking power.

Why buy a used MAN TGX and who it suits

The MAN TGX offers the best price-to-performance ratio in the German premium segment: a 2019-2021 TGX 18.470 with 500,000-700,000 km costs between 38,000 and 54,000 €, several thousand below an equivalent Actros or FH, with an equally robust D26 drivetrain. It suits fleets wanting a reliable German truck without paying the brand premium and Central European operators where the MAN network is the densest. The new-generation TGX consumption (25-28 L/100 with EfficientCruise) makes it competitive on TCO. Coatrucks imports MAN directly from Germany with official maintenance history.

D26 maintenance and inspection points on a used MAN

The 12.4-litre six-cylinder D26 is a reliable engine with a 1.2-1.5 million kilometre service life. Watch points are the AdBlue dosing module and the NOx sensor on early Euro 6 versions (replacement 300-500 €) and the TipMatic clutch actuator above 700,000 km. Before buying, connect MAN-cats diagnostics, check there are no frequent forced DPF regenerations and inspect the EVBec. Coatrucks delivers every MAN with a documented inspection and a 6-month B2B mechanical warranty.

Frequently asked questions

  • Which used MAN TGX engine is best for international transport?+
For long-distance international work the 12.4-litre D26 in 470 or 510 HP is the most balanced choice: 2,300-2,600 Nm of torque, 25-28 L/100 consumption with EfficientCruise and a service life over 1.2 million km. The D38 (540-640 HP) is only justified for heavy weights or mega-trucks. The 9-litre D15 falls short for 40 tonnes on long routes. At Coatrucks most TGX we sell are fitted with the D26.
  • Is the second-hand MAN TGX reliable?+
The new-generation TGX (2020+) is a robust truck with the D26 engine as a durability benchmark. Documented faults are minor and typical of Euro 6: AdBlue module and the odd NOx sensor on early units (300-500 €). With official maintenance up to date and a clean MAN-cats diagnosis, a TGX with 600,000-800,000 km is a very safe buy. Every unit we deliver at Coatrucks passes a documented inspection.
  • What is the difference between MAN GM, GN and GX cabs?+
The GX is the TGX's top cab: fully flat floor, 2,121 mm interior height and maximum storage, ideal for drivers who live in the truck. The GN is slightly lower and the GM is the medium-roof version for distribution and delivery where overnighting isn't needed. For long-distance international work the GX is the recommended option and the one that resells best.
  • How does the MAN EfficientCruise system work?+
EfficientCruise is MAN's predictive cruise control: it uses GPS data and topographic mapping to anticipate gradients and adjust the speed and gears of the TipMatic 2 before reaching the climb or descent. Combined with EfficientRoll mode (which decouples the engine on gentle descents), it cuts consumption by up to 6%. It is one of the technologies that make the TGX competitive on TCO against Scania or Mercedes.
  • What fuel consumption does a used MAN TGX 470 achieve?+
A new-generation TGX 18.470 runs at around 25-28 L/100 km fully loaded on the motorway with EfficientCruise active, a very competitive figure within the premium segment. The real figure depends on route relief and driving style. It is one of the TGX's buying arguments: German premium-brand performance with a lower purchase price than an equivalent Actros or FH.
  • What is the MAN service network like in Spain?+
MAN has the densest service network in Central Europe and in Spain it has official workshops in every province, plus MAN Mobile24 for roadside assistance. Parts availability for the TGX is very good. This makes it easy to maintain a MAN imported from Germany, which is where most of the well-kept used stock comes from.
  • Can I import a MAN TGX from Germany with Coatrucks?+
Yes. We import MAN directly from Germany, the brand's main market, where there is plenty of TGX stock with official maintenance. We handle transport, reduced homologation in Spain (technical sheet with COC, ~148 € and 24-48 h) and registration fees (700-1,000 €). As an intra-EU transaction, VAT is 0% via VIES if your company is on the ROI register. Typical timeline: 7-15 days from purchase to registered.
