• How much does a used semi-trailer cost?+

  A standard 2014-2017 curtainsider starts at €8,000-12,000 + VAT. Recent Mega or XL curtainsiders (2019-2022) range €14,000-22,000. Schmitz/Krone refrigerated (2017-2020) €18,000-32,000 with valid ATP. Aluminium tippers €12,000-22,000. ADR tankers €15,000-40,000 by product and compartments. Extendable flatbeds €9,000-18,000. • Refrigerated, curtainsider, tipper or tanker: which to choose for my activity?+

  Curtainsider for European palletised freight (general logistics, parcel, textile). Refrigerated Carrier/Thermo King for food, pharma or floral cold chain (always with valid ATP). Tipper for aggregates, debris, grain or waste. ADR tanker for chemicals, food liquids or fuel. Container chassis for maritime traffic (ISO 20'/40'). Extendable flatbed for beams, precast or long loads.
• What's the kerb weight and max payload of a semi-trailer?+

  Standard 3-axle curtainsider: kerb 6,500-7,500 kg, payload 26-27t (40t GVW with tractor). Aluminium Mega curtainsider: kerb 6,300 kg, payload 27.7t. Aluminium tipper: kerb 5,800-6,200 kg, payload 28t+. Hardox tipper (for abrasives): kerb 7,500-8,500 kg, payload 26t. Refrigerated: kerb 8,000-9,500 kg (with Carrier unit), payload 23-25t. Lower kerb = higher revenue.
• How often is ATP certification renewed (refrigerated)?+

  ATP certificate (Agreement Transport Perishables) is mandatory for refrigerated semi-trailers in international perishable food transport. Initial validity 6 years + 3-year renewable up to 12 years max from manufacturing. Renewal includes thermal insulation test and cooling unit efficacy. Without valid ATP, you can't run international refrigerated transport.
• How often is ADR certification renewed (tankers)?+

  ADR certificate (European Agreement on Transport of Dangerous Goods) for tankers is renewed via periodic inspection: every 6 years for complete inspection (pressure + interior), and every 2.5-3 years intermediate inspection. In addition to vehicle certification, the driver needs valid specific ADR training. No ADR = no fuel, chemicals or gas transport.
• BPW vs SAF suspension: what's the difference?+

  BPW (Germany) and SAF-Holland (Germany) are the two European references in axles and air suspension for semi-trailers. BPW excels in bearing durability and extensive after-sales service in Spain. SAF is slightly lighter with better disc braking (Intradisc). Both with ABS/EBS. Parts available in any workshop. Choice doesn't significantly affect resale value.
• What's a Mega semi-trailer and when does it pay off?+

  Mega = 3-metre interior height (standard 2.70m), allowing 33 euro-pallets in 3 stacks or voluminous cargo (textile, parcel, tyres). Requires a tractor with lowered suspension (Volvo FH Globetrotter, Mercedes Actros Lowliner). Similar kerb to standard. Useful if you ship volume rather than weight. Not worth it for heavy cargo (tippers, refrigerated with heavy pallets) where tonnage limits before volume.
• Hydraulics for a discharge crane on flatbed or curtainsider?+

  Some flatbeds and curtainsiders come with crane pre-installation for Hiab/Palfinger/Fassi: hydraulic line from tractor (PTO + pump), oil tank and controller. Crane integrated in the bed (6 to 24 t·m capacity) for autonomous loading/unloading. Adds 800-1,200 kg kerb but enables operation without crane on site. Useful for construction, site supply and machinery.
• How often does a semi-trailer need MOT/ITV?+

  In Spain, semi-trailer MOT (ITV) is annual from the first year. They inspect chassis, brakes (roller bench), suspension, lights, tyres, axles and king pin. Refrigerated also ATP, tankers ADR. MOT is mandatory to circulate and required at DGT transfer of ownership.
• Do you deliver semi-trailers to Madrid, Barcelona or anywhere?+

  Yes. Delivery across Spain from Lleida: Madrid (4h), Valencia (3h), Seville (8h), Barcelona (2h), Bilbao (5h), Málaga (9h). For Europe: France 24-48h, Portugal 24h, Italy 2-3 days, Germany 3-4 days, UK 4-5 days (post-Brexit). Insured transport with dedicated tractor or convoy. Request exact quote with any inquiry.
• Is there warranty and financing on used semi-trailers?+

  Legal 1-year warranty on sale to private buyer, contractual in B2B. Coatrucks offers full pre-delivery inspection as standard and optional extended mechanical warranty.
